About Annette Summersett

Annette’s musical journey began with a natural instinct to tell stories through song. Raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, she drew early inspiration from the rugged beauty of her surroundings—an ideal landscape for a budding acoustic folk songwriter.

In her twenties, Annette took a leap of faith and relocated to Los Angeles, where she immersed herself in the live music circuit. During this time, she performed extensively, wrote children’s music for Baby Genius, released an album of contemporary Folk/Americana songs, and collaborated in the studio with a range of talented producers and musicians.

Her path eventually led her to Northern California’s Napa Valley, where she continued performing and, over the past decade, expanded her creative practice into music production. As a producer and composer, she has developed a holistic, story-driven approach to sound—shaping music from concept through final delivery.

That evolution ultimately brought her back home to Michigan, this time to the Traverse City area, where the artist in her was reunited with the Great Lakes that first shaped her musical sensibilities. She is currently expanding her repertoire further by stepping into composing and scoring for film and television, bringing her narrative instincts into the visual storytelling space.

It was here, on the shores of Lake Michigan, that Dune Flower Productions was born.

Mission: Dune Flower Productions creates emotionally resonant, story-first music that deepens human connection across song, screen, and sound.

Experience

Annette brings decades of music industry experience to her work, marked by both artistic depth and notable professional achievements. Her journey includes a songwriting retreat with legendary Nashville songwriter Rodney Crowell, where her original song “Storyteller” earned direct praise from Crowell himself. She also took first place in American Songwriter Magazine’s Songwriter Boot Camp Challenge with the co-written song “Hold Onto Me.”

Annette recorded her folk/rock/americana album Solid Earth and Gold in Minneapolis, MN, collaborating with the late Ed Ackerson (Golden Smog, Flowers Studio), bassist Marc Perlman of The Jayhawks, and renowned Minneapolis drummer Peter Anderson of The Ocean Blue.

During her tenure as a songwriter for Baby Genius, Annette wrote “You Are a Rainbow,” which was featured by Rainbow Fish and Hasbro’s My Little Pony and submitted for consideration for a Children’s Grammy.

Her 2020 EP, From the Woods, is a collection of alternative folk songs produced with Peter Craft of Boxer Lodge Studios in Napa Valley, California.

In addition to her solo work, Annette is an active collaborator across genres including Folk, Pop, Hip Hop, and Country. She is also one half of the alt-pop duo Hybrid DNA, continuing to expand her creative reach through genre-blending projects and partnerships.

Annette's vision is to bring your vision to life. It's that simple. She approaches writing songs and crafting musical productions, with her unique style of creativity, her love of story telling, and an open mind and heart.
